Carley’s Way on Tolworth Debut

CARLEYPROMO

Roehampton’s incoming welterweight, Jamie Carley, makes his professional debut at the Tolworth Leisure Centre this Saturday night looking to make up for a little lost time.

A brief amateur career followed Carley primarily making appearances for charity, until he met Keith Hawkins that is – seeds were sown and the now 29-year-old fighter ended up at Small Holdings before deciding earlier this year that it was time to make a go of it, and make a push for a Southern Area title sooner rather than later.

“I’m at an age now where I either box just for fun, or make a good go of it,” began Carley.

“It’s more structured in the pros and there’s good time for training, sparring and what-have-you and being with Adam Martin, we just clicked from the off. The age I’m at now though I’d be happy boxing for a Southern Area sooner than later and what comes after that, happens – I’ve got a chance like anyone else though.”

CARLEY-SKEETE

In opposing experienced Devon fighter, Ali Wyatt, the southern debutant has had some top quality sparring with Penge’s British, Inter-continental and European welterweight star, Bradley ‘Super’ Skeete ahead of his title defence against Alexandre Lepelly the same night (at the Ice Arena, Cardiff).

“There’s been plenty of notice for my debut and I’ve had a really good camp building up to Saturday night,” Carley added.

“The sparring I’ve had with Skeete though, that was an experience in itself and someone like him shows what you can strive towards – he’s a really good guy and very humble in it.

“I enjoy boxing though and that kind of sparring helps.

“The rest of this year I’d like to stay busy and hopefully get another three or four contests in. I’m raring to go and will fight every month if we get that phone call – I’m ready and willing to go straight away.”

Carley would like to thank his sponsors Expert Skips, Grafting Gardens and Metro Waste for helping him start his journey into the pro ranks.

The show, Genesis, takes place on July 16 2016 at the Tolworth Recreation Centre, Fullers Way North, Tolworth, Surrey. KT6 7LQ. Professional debut beckons for the Captain

BARKERPROMO

As captain of Smallholdings Boxing Club in Morden, Adam Barker had a good run of it over the five years he was there, proving people wrong along the way.

Now, with one young child, and another on the way, Barker is looking at making a significant splash in the paid ranks beginning with a debut clash with Danny Donchev on July 16 in Tolworth. He’s not looking at holding back either with titles on his mind before the end of next year.

He’ll also be making his debut alongside sparring partner and stablemate, Jamie Carley who’s taken a different route to the pros. For Adam though, although just 23-years-old, it’s time to make a proper fist of it.

“I’d been to a couple of different gyms in the area in my late teens before meeting Keith Hawkins at Smallholdings,” explained Adam.

“My career took off after that though and I’ve had a great run over the five years that I was there with them, I certainly proved a lot of people wrong.

“I was club captain for the last season and a half and won 25 of the 32 amateur outings I had. I proved that I belonged though having boxed in Ireland against the Irish champion and making the Elite Final of the Haringey Box Cup; it’s prepared me really well for what’s to come.”

Donchev won’t be no pushover though so Barker will have to be at his best. A sixteen year veteran Donchev may have just six successes from his 95 outings but that counts for little come fight night, after all he’s only been stopped fourteen times so that sparring, that training, that teamwork in the gym, needs to count for Barker.

“I’ve done some great sparring sessions, not only with Jamie but also with Bradley Skeete ahead of his upcoming title defence,” continued Barker.

“I’ll also be helping Tyler Goodjohn ahead of his next bout so there’s some great help out there for me. It’s got me feeling really excited for my debut and I can’t wait to get on with it now, create opportunities for myself and one hundred percent won’t have any hesitance taking fights as I want to be in the best position I can be, win titles, and put food on the table for my fiancée Shannon, my daughter Maisie, and soon-to-arrive Teddy (who’s due ten days after the debut).”

Not holding back, far from pulling punches, Barker knows in his mind what the future holds and Donchev is just the first step to achieving that. Backed by local support which help him concentrate on his dream – Phoenix Scaffolding, The Morden Brook Public House, KTD Waste Disposal, Boxfit UK, Figment Editing, Electrix 24 Ltd and Bottom Time Ltd are going a long way to aid the dream.

As Barker says though: “I can fight, and I can box, and I’ll prove it.

“I’m hoping to get at least a Southern Area title shot by the end of next year but the main goal is that British title, the Lord Lonsdale belt. I don’t want to be stuck doing six or eight round contests for too long, I do those in the gym all the time with Jamie.

“I’m not arrogant, far from it, just confident in my own abilities and know that I have to do what I can do to get to where I want to be and after all, I can only beat who has been put in front of me.”

The show, Genesis, takes place on July 16 2016 at the Tolworth Recreation Centre, Fullers Way North, Tolworth, Surrey. KT6 7LQ.
